What we consider “healthy” in reality may be harmful

I like this!!!

Fit4Life

Here is my soap box. Bare with me. A) Even what we consider “healthy” is not always such. B) I am not a fan of the USDA or the FDA. Often the FDA/USDA approved foods/substances have not been researched/tested. Granted science is an evolving field and research will eventually catch up but often our Federal Regulating Offices approve chemicals and toxins to be placed in our foods. C) Please eat out ANYWHERE with caution and with moderation. I want you to enjoy what you eat and have time out to dinner with friends, but occasionally. D) I share this not to scare people but to educate them. We are such an informed society. We know so much crap about crap. But why do we not care to know what we eat and put in our bodies? I care and so I research and read. I share this with you. Take…

After Day Four

Hey guys!!! I woke up on day 5 feeling more happier than I have felt before. I was kind of in the dumps for last few months. Not only unhealthy with my lifestyle but almost my life itself. I felt as if I keep trying to do things and some things just never worked out for me. I look at my life and sometimes wonder what if or maybe if and never gave myself enough credit. I came to the realization that I am responsible for anything that happens in my life. I finally decided to stop making excuses for reasons why I was not doing more with myself. I am so happy that I decided to stop making excuses about my life. I am starting to find out things about myself that I never knew. I am 27 years old and I am still learning new things about myself. I just recently started school and I have been doing assignments that allow me to look at myself as a whole instead of in sections. I have learned so many things that I would have never thought about myself.  This is not just some ‘diet’ that I am just trying to do for a few weeks, this is a lifestyle change for me. The fact that I look at this as a lifestyle, is going to keep me motivated and dedicated to being healthy! I am going into day 5 with my head held up high and not looking back on that old lifestyle. I am embracing being healthy!!!

Remembering the Super Bowl

Can not wait to try these!!!

Nutrition In The Now

Image

The Super Bowl provided me with a perfect opportunity to enjoy sports and host a party. It was the best of both worlds for me, sports and food, lots of it. I narrowed down the food option to various cold finger foods. They are easy to prepare, do not require attention while the game is on and are easy to eat.

FINGER FOODS BY CHOICE

Vegetable Pinwheel, a favorite at our parties.

  • light cream cheese,
  • diced green onions,
  • diced green and red bell peppers
  • diced broccoli.

Add cream cheese to the vegetables and toss.

Spread onto a tortilla and cut into bite size pieces.

Baked Jalapeño.

  • light cream cheese
  • diced yellow bell peppers
  • shredded cheese(any variety)

Cut the jalapeños in half and cleaned out the seeds to create a semi cup.  Add light cream cheese to the diced yellow bell peppers. Spread filling into the jalapeños  halves.  Sprinkle shredded cheese…

Form, Function & Focus – My Fit Journey

I like this!

The Year of the Aliens

ImageI love/hate to admit that my motivational push to fitness was the feeling I got when I walked into a sporting goods store and saw all the brightly colored workout gear. I got the same feeling walking into Whole Foods for the first time and suddenly spending $3 on a green pepper didn’t seem like a big deal. After all, it was organic. I craved a connection to that energy, to sprinkle a little vibrancy on my daily routine. The problem was all my residual cravings… for lethargy, junk food and the college standard of living but it just wasn’t translating into the person I felt inside.

At the time, I was interning with a progressive recycling company and working at a spa, so health & wellness were lingering in my subconscious on a daily basis. Fitness, Sustainability, Eco-anything were buzzwords generating a deep rooted excitement that energized me…
